Simple and beautiful. You avoid sentimentality with the alien look of the baby. The brush-strokes on the left create an illusion of stars when the eye focuses on the baby. And since it's NOT a star, it works with the style of the rest of the piece. And as a piece of negative space, it's really effective. I also really love the diagonals. You center the piece at the point of contact, but the diagonals that play off the kisser & baby (or alien, they look the same) really give it lots of energy that translates into emotion.
